Russian commander suggests single option nuclear weapon to win war in Ukraine

FLY – Alexander Khodakovsky, a combat commander Russia suggesting the use of nuclear weapons as the only option to win a war Ukraine .

He was one of the commanders leading forces in Donetsk, a breakaway region of Ukraine that has now joined the Russian Federation in a referendum.

His suggestion comes more than nine months after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his February 24 invasion of Ukraine, hoping for a quick victory.

However, the vigor of Ukraine’s defense efforts, backed by Western financial and military aid, has blunted Moscow’s military progress. Putin’s troops continue to fight for substantial goals.

During the tense conflict, concerns were raised that Putin would order the use of nuclear weapons if he felt he had no other way to win the war or if the war escalated into a larger conflict with the Organization of North Atlantic Treaty (NATO).

Khodakovsky’s suggestion was broadcast during an appearance on Russian state television. The video of his performance was translated and in-detachment on Twitter by reporters BBC Francesco Scarr.

He said Russian military authorities realized their resources were limited, suggesting they may have to resort to nuclear weapons to defeat Ukraine.

“Everyone realized that the next spiral of escalation might just be a phase of nuclear war,” Khodakovsky said.
