Russia reminded Israel to stop attacks on Syria.
Through a spokeswoman for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, Russia is concerned that Israel’s attacks on Syria will increase tensions in the Middle East region.
“Israel continues a number of attacks on targets in Syria causing deep concern,” Zakharova was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies Tass.
“There is a serious violation of Syria’s sovereignty and could trigger a sharp escalation of tensions. Such actions (attack) also pose a serious risk to international passenger flights,” Zakharova added.
He went on to state that Rusoa systematically and firmly opposes attempts to turn Syria into an area of armed conflict between third countries.
“Once again we warn the Israeli side to refrain from using such force (attacking Syria),” Zakharov said.
Recently, the Israeli and Syrian militaries were again involved in a confrontation by sending missiles to each other. The Israeli military claims the attacks were carried out to target enemies of Iran who are in Syria.
The incident came after Syria claimed to have intercepted an Israeli missile that was fired earlier and targeted the capital, Damascus. The incident reportedly killed one army personnel and injured five people.
The government of President Bashar Al-Assad then launched a retaliatory missile attack on Israeli territory.
An Israeli military spokesman declined to comment on reports of the first attack on Damascus. However, Tel Aviv said it had carried out a retaliatory missile strike on Syria in response to an anti-aircraft missile launch.
