Girl (17) attacked by shark while snorkeling: leg possibly amputated | Abroad

Her father wrote on Facebook: “The shark first bit her once and then let go for a while. And then he attacked her right thigh again. She tried poking it in the eye and punching it, but wouldn’t let go.”

Fortunately, her brother was there to perform a heroic deed. Rhett Willingham, who is also a first responder and firefighter, managed to pull his sister away from the shark and pulled her onto a nearby boat. “Rhett wrapped a bandage around the leg to stop the immense blood loss. At the same time, he kept her awake and ultimately saved her life,” said father Shane.

Addison was taken to hospital where her right leg was found to be severely damaged. According to Shane, the doctors are currently “unsure about the condition of the leg and want to take it day by day to see what needs to be done.”

Friday morning Addison awoke from anesthesia. According to her family, she was in a good mood and joked about beating up a shark.
