Chancellor Scholz wants to provide two billion euros in additional military aid – significantly more than one billion should go to Ukraine. More than 2,800 people have been taken out of particularly conflicted areas in eastern Ukraine. The news at a glance.
Die Federal government increases its arms aid for partner countries to two billion euros. Finance Minister Lindner announced on Twitter in the evening that the funds would primarily benefit Ukraine. Specifically, according to the ARD capital studio, significantly more than one billion euros should go to the country. The Ukrainians could use it to buy the weapons they wanted in coordination with the US and other partners.
Habeck calls for more weapons for Ukraine
Should the Ukraine want to buy weapons from Germany, this export would have to be approved by Federal Economics Minister Habeck. However, this is considered unproblematic, since Habeck has already campaigned for an increase in arms deliveries to the Ukraine. “We cannot leave Ukraine alone in the war. They are also fighting for us. Ukraine must not lose, Putin must not win,” said the Federal Minister of Economics.

More than 2,800 Ukrainians brought to safety
More than 2,800 people have been evacuated from particularly hard-fought areas in the east of the country. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk on Telegram. According to this, around 2,500 refugees arrived in the city of Zaporizhia in the south. About 360 came from the hard-hit port city of Mariupol. According to Ukrainian information, Russian troops are said to have previously fired on several buses near Kharkiv in the east. There is talk of seven fatalities and 27 injuries. Meanwhile, a high-ranking official at the US Department of Defense supported information from Kyiv, according to which the sunken Russian warship “Moskva” was hit by Ukrainian missiles. The Russian side said the ship sank after ammunition detonated on board.
In the current situation, information on the course of the war, shelling and the number of victims by official bodies of the Russian and Ukrainian conflict parties cannot be directly checked by an independent body.
