Russia Threatens to Use Nuclear Weapons If There Is an Existential Threat

Russia not against the use nuclear weapons in the war in the midst of the Moscow aggression in Ukraine which continues to get fierce matches.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said Russia would only use nuclear weapons if it faced an “existential threat”.

“If there is an existential threat to our country, then (nuclear weapons) can be used according to our principles,” Peskov said when asked by CNN presenter Christiane Amanpour about Russia’s possible use of nuclear weapons on Tuesday (22/3).

So far, some fear that Russia will use its nuclear weapons in its war against Ukraine. However, Peskov did not answer firmly about the possibility of using nuclear weapons for the war against Ukraine or Western countries.

He only emphasized that Russia would use nuclear weapons if there was an existential threat. Especially the security threat to sovereignty in its territory.

According to Peskov, it is natural that each country has principles on how to maintain in its respective countries. Russia is also included.

“We have a concept of maintaining internal security and it is open. You can see all the reasons for using nuclear weapons,” Peskov was quoted as saying. CNN.

Previously, former top brass of the Soviet Union Intelligence Service (KGB) Oleg Kalugin, revealed that the character of Russian President, Vladimir Putin, tends to be dangerous. According to him, Putin could be reckless with using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

According to him, Putin is an unpredictable figure so that the threat of a nuclear attack cannot be considered a passing wind by western countries.

“That’s Putin’s way of threatening. The Western world must not ignore this threat,” he said, adding that Putin “will do everything just to stop the collapse of his system.”
