More and more countries are complaining about delays in the delivery of Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine “Sputnik V”. The Russian authorities are being blamed for empty promises and breaches of treaties.
At the beginning of the year, Russia reported that it would be able to supply vaccines to 700 million people outside Russia.
However, six months later, many developing countries have received only a small proportion of the vaccines they have paid for.
For example, Iran, which has a high prevalence of Covid-19, ordered 60 million doses from Moscow, but had received only 920,000 by the end of June.
The Central American state of Guatemala, on the other hand, reports that only 150,000 vaccines have been received from an order for eight million vaccines, for which the country has long paid about $ 80 million.
Meanwhile, the same Russia has had a steadily high prevalence of Covid-19 for several weeks, while vaccination has been relatively slow, despite the availability of Russia’s own Sputnik V vaccine. Only about 16% of people have received the first vaccine,
