The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council believes that the explosion was carried out at the direction of Moscow.
“The command for this terrorist act was issued from the Kremlin, from Putin’s office. Such instructions are not given at other levels. This is not the level of a battalion, a division, this is not even the level of the situation related to Shoigu,” he said.
Danilov also said that the occupiers blew up the dam because of the expectation of a Ukrainian counteroffensive. In addition, before the explosion, they raised the water level at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
“They all expect our counteroffensive. Moreover, they raised the level (of the water – ed.) to the maximum. It was 18.16 meters, they raised it more than 19 meters. They deliberately accumulated it in order to create more harm during the explosion,” he added.
Undermining the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station
On the night of June 6, the Russians blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, it was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
The GUR noted that Russia had been preparing for a very long time to blow up the dam. In addition, the United States has intelligence confirming Russia’s guilt in undermining the hydroelectric power station.
Due to the explosion of the dam, water began to fill the right and left banks of the Kherson region, there is a threat of flooding for 80 settlements. The Ukrainian authorities have already evacuated more than 1.5 thousand people.
There are no data on casualties among the population as a result of the disaster. However, the police received three reports of missing persons in the flood zone in the Kherson region.
