Rural Youth Salzburg: Successful rural youth day for the Pongau

The Pongau local groups of the rural youth in Salzburg were particularly hardworking last year and received awards for several projects at the Rural Youth Day.

SALZBURG. The Salzburger Landjugend (LJ) was extremely active with 43 projects in 2020 despite restrictions. The 7,500 members of the largest youth organization in the country showed their social commitment with activities in their communities as well as voluntary project work. The rural youth Maishofen stood out in particular and was named the most active local group. Soon the group leaders Marlene Kendler and Florian Neumayr will be able to hold the Salzburger Landjugend Tier in their hands. “The many members and the great initiatives impressively demonstrate what rural youth are capable of achieving. And that was a considerable achievement in the past year, ”states Governor Wilfried Haslauer in his video message.

Twice gold for Gastein

“The rural youth managed to take on the challenge again in a very special way and to adjust to the times. I am not worried about the future as long as the rural youth actively help shape it, ”said President of the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture Rupert Quehenberger enthusiastically. Among the projects awarded on January 16, the Landjugend Gastein won gold twice for their projects “Mitanond fürn Bauernstond” and “Social – Rooted – Looking into the Future”. The rest of the Pongau was also very successful. The rural youth in Bischofshofen received the award in silver with “Summit victory – revive the rural youth cross, large viola head (2857m)”. Likewise, the rural youth Pfarrwerfen with “Adventure community garden”. The best project in the country was “Bundschuhkohle – Old handicrafts preserved” by the local group Unternberg. In the bronze category, “OLD becomes NEW – group room renovation” by the rural youth in Hüttau. This year, a lot will revolve around the 70th anniversary of the organization, says country manager Johanna Schafflinger.

The Landjugend Unternberg will soon be able to hold the trophy for the best project in Salzburg in their hands.

Golden achievement badges

The day was also used to honor rural youth officials for their many years of service. The twelve gold badges went to Sandra Moser (Köstendorf), David Schitter (Straßwalchen), Maria Aigner (Seekirchen), Michael Egger (Taxenbach), Martin Steiner, Andreas Moser and Martina Innerhofer (Piesendorf), Lisa Rieder (Uttendorf), Simon Streitberger (Maishofen), Peter Gaßner and Julia Peßenteiner (Saalfelden). “As a rural youth you have shown what is possible and how much has been implemented in the local groups. I would like to thank all members and officials for their great commitment, ”praised State Councilor Andrea Klambauer in her video message.

This gold badge was awarded to twelve rural youth officials.


Managing Director of the Landjugend Salzburg Elisabeth Weilbuchner and Deputy Provincial Chairman  Markus Ertl and the technology company Pansound ensured a smooth live stream.

Moderation without an audience was a new experience for the country leaders of the rural youth.
