Runoff election: Several new mayors in Lower Saxony | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

A number of cities and municipalities in Lower Saxony voted in a runoff election on mayors, mayors and district administrators on Sunday. Here you can read an overview of important final results.

Even after the departure of Hauke ​​Jagau, the SPD in the Hanover region provides the president: Steffen Krach prevailed against the CDU candidate Christine Karasch in the runoff election. According to the preliminary final result, he won 63.91 percent of the vote. In Braunschweig, Lower Saxony’s second largest city, there is Thorsten Kornblum, a new SPD mayor. His party colleague Ulrich Markurth did not run for re-election. Kornblum won 65.9 percent of the vote and was clearly ahead of Kaspar Haller from the CDU.

New CDU mayor in Osnabrück

Katharina Pötter (CDU) is the new mayor of Osnabrück.

In the city of Osnabrück, the post of Lord Mayor remains in the hands of the CDU: Katharina Pötter succeeds her party colleague Wolfgang Griesert, who for reasons of age did not run for the mayor election. Annette Niermann from the Greens had already admitted her defeat in the runoff election before the preliminary final result was announced and congratulated Pötter. In the city of Göttingen, Petra Broistedt succeeds her SPD party colleague Rolf-Georg Köhler as Lord Mayor. Broistedt received 52.96 percent of the vote in the runoff election and was ahead of the Green candidate Doreen Fragel.

Krogmann remains mayor in Oldenburg

In Oldenburg, too, the result of the runoff election for the post of Lord Mayor is certain: The SPD candidate Jürgen Krogmann remains in office. With 54.07 percent of the vote, he was clearly ahead of Daniel Fuhrhop from the Greens. In Wolfsburg, Dennis Weilmann of the CDU becomes the new Lord Mayor of the city. In the runoff election on Sunday, he was 55.9 percent ahead of his competitor Iris Bothe from the SPD. After ten years in office, Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs (SPD) did not run for election.

Lüneburg gets a green mayor

Claudia Johanna Kalisch from the Greens becomes mayor of Lüneburg.

The mayor election in Lüneburg was won by the Green candidate Claudia Johanna Kalisch (Greens) with 55.46 percent of the vote and thus prevailed against Heiko Meyer from the Lüneburg electoral community. Mayor Ulrich Mägde (SPD), who has been in office since 1991, did not run for election again. In Delmenhorst, the CDU candidate Petra Gerlach won the runoff election with a clear result of 67.94 percent of the vote.

Mayor Junk in Goslar voted out of office

In Goslar, the incumbent Lord Mayor Oliver Junk (CDU) clearly lost the runoff election, according to the preliminary final result. Urte Schwerdtner (SPD) is now the new mayor. 62.78 percent of the electorate voted for them. The Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior initiated disciplinary proceedings against junk on September 10th. He is suspected of having manipulated files in an award procedure. Junk defends itself against the allegations.

SPD candidate Lynack becomes district administrator in the Hildesheim district

Marcel Riethig (SPD) won the race for the district administrator’s election in the Göttingen district. With 63.5 percent of the vote, he was well ahead of Marlies Dornieden (CDU). In the district of Hildesheim, member of the state parliament Bernd Lynack (SPD) succeeds his party colleague Olaf Levonen (SPD). With 62.53 percent of the vote, he was well ahead of his competitor Evelin Wißmann from the CDU. In the Wesermarsch district, the new district administrator is Stephan Siefken (non-party). He prevailed with 56.95 percent of the vote.

District Administrator Ebel has to vacate posts in the Gifhorn district

In the district of Gifhorn, incumbent Andreas Ebel from the CDU has to vacate his post as district administrator. The SPD candidate Tobias Heilmann won the runoff election with a preliminary final result of 64.06 percent of the vote. The provisional final result, however, was close to the district election in the Helmstedt district: the incumbent District Administrator Gerhard Radeck (CDU) won the race with a lead of less than one percent of the votes. In the Wolfenbüttel district, Christiana Steinbrügge (SPD) won the district election. With 66.27 percent, it was well ahead of its competitor Uwe Schäfer from the CDU. In the district election in the district of Peine, the SPD candidate Henning Heiss was after counting almost all electoral districts with 65 percent clearly ahead of his competitor Banafsheh Nourkhiz Mahjoub from the CDU.

The new mayor of Papenburg becomes SPD candidate Vanessa Gattung. With 62.57 percent of the vote, she clearly prevailed against her rival Pascal Albers from the CDU. In Achim, the non-party candidate Rainer Ditzfeld becomes mayor. With 61.81 percent of the vote, he was well ahead of his competitor Nadine Fischer from the CDU. Ivica Lukanic (independent) becomes the new mayor of Wolfenbüttel. He received 55.72 percent of the vote, his competitor Dennis Berger (SPD) was defeated. In Nienburg, the non-party candidate Jan Wendorf becomes the new mayor.

Lüchow: Liwke is the new mayor of the municipality

In the joint municipality of Lüchow, the non-party candidate Sascha Liwke becomes the new joint mayor of the municipality. He prevailed against Thorsten Hensel from BL Lüchow. The CDU candidate Karin Single (CDU) narrowly won the election for mayor of Meinersen – with less than a percent advantage over Stephanie Fahlbusch-Graber from the SPD.
