Rowing / European Championships. Disillusionment for the people of Lorraine in Varese

The first day of the European Championships foreshadowed a much better result than that experienced this Saturday by five of the eight French teams who were racing either in the repechage or in the semi-final.

While in the series, they had managed to qualify for the semi-finals, Hugo Beurey (SN Nancy) and Pierre Houin (US Toul) were unable to move up a gear this Saturday, finishing sixth in their race. Still in the game after the first 500 meters, the duo finally let go and gave way to the other competitors. A first hard blow for the Lorraine athletes, but which was not going to be the last.

Because it was also a cold shower for the male coxless four. The four rowers of the France pole of Nancy, after a good performance Friday in a repechage won hands down, failed to meet the challenge in the semi-finals. After tasting the A final last year in Poznan, this Sunday they will have to be content with the B final.

Camille Juillet tried everything

Emma Cornelis (SN Nancy) will also run this Sunday in the B final of the coxless four. The young tricolor boat did not manage to get his ticket for the grand final in the repechage. Same sanction for the women’s quadruple scull: the Verdunoise Camille Juillet and her teammates tried everything to gain one of the first two places to qualify for the final, but they finished in third position.

Last race of the day, the semi-final of the men’s quadruple with, aboard the French boat which was racing there its first international regatta since the 2019 season, the Nancyian Benjamin Haguenauer. The crew tried to get into the top three, but they finally had to settle for fifth place and will therefore start this Sunday in the B final.
