During the collision in Valkenburg (South Holland), seven people ended up in the water. One of them, the 63-year-old man, was taken out of the water by people on the shore and resuscitated. He was then taken to hospital. The six others managed to get out of the water themselves. The police are still investigating the cause of the accident

“Who could have imagined that a nice Tuesday evening training would end in such a drama”, the association writes on Facebook. “Unfortunately he did not survive the terrible accident. The board of Rowing Club Ferox wishes the family, his friends and his team members a lot of strength. We will miss him terribly.”

Taken too early

The Katwijk mayor Visser reacts with affection to the death of the rower, reports Broadcaster West. “The fatal accident on the Oude Rijn has ensured that an involved member of the rowing club, who was full and sporty in life, was taken from us much too soon,” he writes.

“Our condolences go out to the relatives, the rowers who were also in the boat and the other members of Ferox. We wish them a lot of strength with this large and unexpected loss.”
