From “Brokeback Mountain Secret” to “Scooby-Doo”, “Mad Men” or “Avengers”, the 44-year-old actress has portrayed a wide range of characters on screen. On the sidelines of the launch of season 2 of “Dead To Me” on Netflix, Linda Cardellini explained to us why.

What to say about the character you play in “Dead To Me”?

Maybe he’s the role that most resembles me in my entire career. Like Judy, I enjoy meeting people, chatting and sharing with others. She is more extreme than I do in her behavior, but I could also take a stranger in my arms to cheer her up. Well, it’s much more complicated right now with all these distancing measures that we have to impose on ourselves. For me, the hardest part is not staying locked up at home. I’m there with my partner and our daughter (note: the artistic director Steve Rodriguez who has shared his life since 2009 and Lilah-Rose, 8 years old). What’s hard for me is not to kiss or shake hands with people I know if I meet them in the neighborhood

What are the changes for Judy Hale in the second season?

Judy returns to work in the retirement home where a new elderly person arrives and she will approach Michelle, the daughter of this newcomer. This will change the dynamic between Judy and Jen by bringing new twists.

You seem to get along very well with Christina Applegate, who plays Jen.

We had never met before “Dead To Me”. Our complicity was immediate. For the final episode of season 2, we shot an important and difficult scene for our characters. It was great to share this together. After the shooting, we spent the evening discussing our emotions.

How do you choose your roles?

In the first place, I try to go from one extreme to another. Going from a comedy to a drama or a TV series to a movie helps me break the routine that could be dangerous for an actress. I refuse to rest on my laurels. Surprise and let me surprise: this is my ideal.

Will you be playing in the Disney + “Hawkeye” series?

Although in the movie “Avengers: Endgame” I pitched Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s ex-wife, no one contacted me to offer me the role. But I would be delighted.
