27-year-old Puerto Rican woman dies after fighting against COVID-19

The young Puerto Rican Érica Rodríguez, 27, died today, Wednesday, after being in a coma for several weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The president of the College of Physicians, Víctor Ramos, confirmed the information on social networks. Likewise, Rodríguez’s husband, Facundo Gamarra.

“Sorrowful the youngest of our COVID19 warriors. To my friend and pediatric teacher Mayra Vizcarrondo and all her family, our solidarity. That reaffirms us to continue fighting against the virus,” read her message on Facebook.

Rodríguez was a graduate of the School of Public Health of the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico and, according to family members, did not travel outside of Puerto Rico prior to her diagnosis. Nor did he suffer from physical or chronic conditions.

The young woman, who was confined in a hospital in the metropolitan area, received several plasma transfusions, but never managed to wake up from the coma.
