The flow of visitors to the coasts also decreased significantly from Saturday to Sunday. Those who set out by car had free travel almost everywhere.
“It is not great beach weather,” said Olaf Raffel from Büsumer Tourismus Marketing Service TMS on Sunday. The situation in the holiday resort on the North Sea on the first holiday weekend is very relaxed. “I think today is more of a shopping day,” said the tourism director of St. Peter-Ording, Constanze Höfinghoff. Dangast, the North Sea resort of Lower Saxony, was also well utilized at the start of the holiday season. On the beaches, for example, the beach chairs were moved three meters apart so that the radius of 1.50 meters could be maintained.
In the capital, people were also looking to cool off at the weekend. The crowd at the Müggelsee lido in Berlin was so great that no one was admitted on Saturday afternoon, as the police said on Twitter. The Wannsee lido was already fully booked on Saturday and Sunday, said a spokesman for the Berlin bathing establishments. Due to the measures against the corona pandemic, the outdoor pools are not open all day.
Most of the routes in the Republic were free for the summer holidays. On Sunday morning there was exactly zero kilometers of traffic jams on the highways in North Rhine-Westphalia. A spokesman for the state control center of the police also confirmed that travel traffic could flow freely, with a view to the first half of the day.
Already on Saturday, drivers had mostly found free routes. In Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, the traffic situation on the motorways was relaxed. Delays on the routes towards the North Sea and the Baltic Sea were only reported in the north.
As for the weather, it should remain changeable at the start of the week. Isolated thunderstorms threaten Monday in the east and southeast in the entire southeastern half. For the night of Tuesday, the DWD predicts showers from Emsland to Western Pomerania and north of it, occasional short thunderstorms are not entirely out of the question.
