VICENZA, iNews.id – Thousands of mourners gathered in the city of Vicenza, Italy, on Saturday (12/12/2020) for funeral former star soccer Paolo Rossi, who died two days ago. The coffin of the man who used to occupy the position of striker was carried to the local cathedral by teammates who played with him when Italy competed in the 1982 World Cup.
Some of Rossi’s former colleagues, such as Marco Tardelli, Antonio Cabrini, Giancarlo Antognoni, Alessandro Altobelli, Franco Causio, Fulvio Collovati, and Giuseppe Bergomi participated in guarding the funeral. The event was broadcast live by state-owned broadcaster Rai Italia.
Rossi died on Thursday (10/12/2020) at the age of 64. He breathed his last after battling pain. Rossi scored six goals at the 1982 World Cup, including a hat-trick in Italy’s epic 3-2 win over Brazil, when he led his country to the world title for the third time.
“I have not only lost my teammates, but also friends and relatives,” said Cabrini, Saturday (12/12/2020), as quoted Reuters.
Carbini is the player who gives Rossi cross to score the opener against Brazil in the World Cup group stage, July 5, 1982.
“Together we are fighting. We win and sometimes we lose, always getting up even in the face of disappointment. We are part of the group, the group, our group. I don’t think he will leave so soon, “said Carbini.
