The Lörrach police station was relocated from Bahnhofstrasse to Weinbrennerstrasse in mid-2019. This move was urgently needed in order to provide the officials with adequate and modern premises. The central forensic technology, the press office, the human resources department and of course the shift work are housed in the listed building from the 19th century. The conversion cost 3.1 million euros. And it was worth it, says Andreas Nagy, head of the Lörrach police station.
The first plan was to renovate the old, dilapidated police station on Bahnhofstrasse for a significantly higher amount. At that time, “the excavators were already in front of the door,” says Nagy. Then came the police reform in 2014: The directorates of the districts of Lörrach, Emmendingen, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Waldshut were dissolved and combined under the police headquarters in Freiburg. “If you dial 110 in Lörrach today, it’s no longer Lörrach but Freiburg,” explains Nagy.
