Frankly, few people expected such an outcome. Yes, Portugal’s chances of winning were higher, but Switzerland is not an opponent who could give up without a fight. In the end, Brazil also had to suffer with them. But today, of course, was the evening of Fernando Santos’ team, who surprised with his starting line-up, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo in reserve.
This move paid off. Goncalo Ramos, who replaced him, became the star of the match and the first player since 1990 to score a hat-trick in a World Cup play-off match. The Swiss could not figure out how to resist their opponent, and it was too late to change anything with the score 4:0.
