Roger Federer comments on the Russia-Ukraine war and announces a large donation

Roger Federer says he is “appalled” to see the scenes from Ukraine as he promised to donate $500,000 to help Ukrainian children. Federer, one of the greatest players in tennis history, has spoken out against the war and stressed that he and his family stand for peace.

“My family and I are appalled to see images from Ukraine and heartbroken for the innocent people who have been so terribly affected. We stand for peace,” Federer announced in a message on his social media.

“We will be helping children in need of care from Ukraine, approximately 6 million Ukrainian children are currently out of school and we know it is a very critical time to provide access to education and want to support them as they deal with this extremely traumatic experience to deal with

Through the Roger Federer Foundation, we will support War Child Holland with a $500,000 donation to provide access to secondary education for Ukrainian children.”

Federer is not done yet

Federer has had three knee surgeries since 2020 but he’s not done playing tennis yet as he aims to make a comeback in the second half of the season. “After many months of battling injuries, my return to the Tour in March after my first surgery highlighted me and gave me the energy to continue my tennis career.

I’m thankful for every minute I was able to spend on the court with my fans and my tennis family. My experience in Doha showed me that my journey as a top athlete is not over yet. The progress I’m making every day reinforces my belief that I will be healthy and strong enough to return to the tennis court at the highest level,” Federer wrote in his annual report. Federer is confirmed for the Laver Cup, which takes place at the end of September.
