Rocket fire and a night of chaos in Jerusalem

Three rockets were fired last night from the Gaza Strip to southern Israel, the Israeli army was quoted as saying by AFP.

One of the missiles was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile shield, and the other two fell near the security barrier between the Jewish state and the Gaza Strip, the army said in a statement.

Israeli police say a total of 44 people have been detained and 20 police officers injured in Jerusalem. There, security forces clashed with Palestinians, as well as far-right Jewish extremists, who staged an anti-Arab march.

The rocket attacks came amid violent clashes last night in Jerusalem involving far-right Jews and Palestinians, in which 120 people were injured.

Hundreds of Palestinians took part in the clashes last night, clashing with Israeli law enforcement on the West Bank, the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper reported.

An additional police unit was sent to the Kalandia checkpoint near Jerusalem to deal with the riots.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police also took place in the Bethlehem area.

The Palestinians threw stones and bottles of incendiary mixture at the police.

Two Palestinians have been detained in the East Jerusalem area, setting off fireworks and throwing stones, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Following the worst clashes in recent years in Jerusalem’s Old City, the armed wing of Hamas, the Islamist movement that rules in the Gaza Strip, gave its support to Palestinians in East Jerusalem yesterday, a kind of warning to Israel.

Be sure that there is strong and ready-to-use resistance behind you, the Ezedin al-Qassem brigades said in a statement.

The United States has expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Jerusalem and condemned the hate speech, AFP reported. We call for peace and unity, US Foreign Ministry spokesman Ned Price wrote on Twitter.

The Gaza Strip is home to 2 million Palestinians. The enclave has been under Israeli blockade since Hamas came to power in 2007.

Hamas and Israel clashed three times between 2008 and 2014. Since then, rockets and incendiary balloons have been sporadically fired at Israel, and Israel has retaliated against Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the second armed Islamist group in the Palestinian Palestinian militia. .
