RIVM reports smallest number of hospital admissions (27) by corona since March 15 | NOW

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) will report 27 new hospital admissions on Wednesday. That is the smallest number since Sunday, March 15, when the Netherlands experienced the first days of the lockdown. The death toll further increased to 5,204 with 36 deaths.

The number of deaths is also relatively low: since March 23, fewer new deaths were reported in one day, namely May 4. This concerned 26 deceased corona patients.

In the past eleven days, RIVM reported fewer than a hundred new admissions, bringing the total number to more than eleven thousand.

The total number of confirmed infections is now 41,319. The actual number of infections is probably many times higher because not everyone is tested. In addition, the vast majority of the suspected group of patients remain out of the picture because they only show mild symptoms and do not contact their GP.

The new figures from RIVM do not relate to the actual number of hospital admissions and deaths: these are only reports that have been received by the institute, and there is a delay in this.

Figures may have been influenced by slower information flow

The figures for this Wednesday may have been influenced by the National Remembrance Day and Liberation Day, days on which the flow of information to RIVM may slow down further.

According to the RIVM, the figures of the past few days still fit the picture that the measures against the spread of the coronavirus have the desired effect.
