RIVM reports 4,060 positive corona tests, slightly more than average (3,988) | NOW

The RIVM will report 4,060 new positive corona tests on Wednesday. The number of new cases is slightly above the average for the past seven days (3,988).

NU.nl looks at the average of the past seven days, because this gives a better picture than the fluctuating daily figures. This average has been falling for over a month.

In the past 24 hours, 62 corona-related deaths have also been registered at the RIVM. This only concerns the reports, so not all of these corona patients have died since Sunday morning.

Averages for the past week

  • Wednesday, February 3: 3,988
  • Tuesday, February 2: 4,085
  • Monday, February 1: 4,141
  • Sunday, January 31: 4,261
  • Saturday, January 30: 4,432
  • Friday, January 29: 4,614
  • Thursday, January 28: 4,804

Number of daily positive tests

Because the infection figures continue to develop positively, primary schools and childcare will reopen from 8 February. Schools get it urgent advice to have children in groups 7 and 8 wear a mouth mask outside of the classroom, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science announced on Wednesday. Children should also work in small, fixed groups as much as possible.

The cabinet has not yet taken a decision on an extension of the curfew after Wednesday 10 February. Insiders previously reported that the curfew would be abolished if the number of positive tests continues to decline, but on Tuesday it became clear that the cabinet will ask the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) for new advice on the package of measures.

RIVM: View alleviations ‘with the utmost caution’

Despite the drop in the daily number of positive tests, warned the RIVM on Tuesday that the more contagious British variant of the corona virus was good for the second third of the infections in the past week.

The dominance of that virus strain and other mutants means that any relaxation of measures must be viewed “with the utmost caution,” the health institute said.
