PONTIANAK, KOMPAS — The West Kalimantan Provincial Health Office noted, from January to the 32nd week of 2023 there were 19 cases of death due to dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF. All of these deaths were children.

Head of the West Kalimantan Province Health Service (Dinkes) Erna Yulianti, when met on Friday (11/8/2023) afternoon, said that DHF cases in West Kalimantan from January to the 32nd week were reported as many as 1,306 cases with 19 deaths. DHF cases are spread in a number of districts/cities.

In Kubu Raya District there were 316 cases of DHF and 4 deaths, Sintang District 205 cases and 2 deaths, and Ketapang District 162 cases and 2 deaths. Then in Kayong Utara District there were 104 cases of DHF, but no cases of death.

Then, Pontianak City has 68 cases of DHF with 1 case of death. Mempawah District has 99 cases of DHF with 5 deaths, and Melawi District has 83 cases with 2 deaths. In addition, Landak District has 40 cases of DHF with 1 death and Singakawang City has 34 cases, but no deaths.

Director of RSUD dr. Soedarso Pontianak Hary Agung Tjahyadi said, there were 15 hospitals in Pontianak and its surroundings, including hospitals in Kubu Raya Regency, discussing handling efforts and preparing for the worst possibilities. The discussion was facilitated by the West Kalimantan Provincial Health Office.

At Dr Soedarso Pontianak Hospital, from January to July, there have been a total of 159 cases of DHF. On August 1-11, there were 48 patients admitted to the Emergency Room, bringing the total to 207 DHF patients as of August.

Officers carry out fumigation to prevent the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta, Tuesday (8/8/2023).

From January to August, the number of patients admitted to Dr. Soedarso General Hospital specifically for DHF patients from Pontianak City was 77 cases and from Kubu Raya Regency there were 57 cases. Apart from that, almost all districts/cities made referrals to Dr Soedarso Hospital.

“The number of referrals from districts/cities is two patients, there is also one patient, and up to seven patients,” said Hary.

The 20 beds have also been filled for pediatric patients.

The referral was made because there were certain conditions that made it impossible for treatment to be carried out at the district/city hospital. This is particularly the case for treatment that requires pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) care, where not all district/city hospitals have these facilities.

Therefore, 15 hospitals discussed preparing for the worst case scenario if inpatients at Dr Soedarso General Hospital and other government hospitals that cooperate with BPJS are over capacity. It is hoped that the patient can be treated at a nearby hospital that still allows receiving inpatients.

Dr Soedarso Hospital has 41 children’s beds. Currently, nine beds have been added to 50 beds in the children’s room. However, that amount was also not enough, so his party opened a room that could be used for around 20 beds. “A total of 20 beds have also been filled for pediatric patients,” said Hary.

DHF patients or acute fever due to Aedes aegypti mosquito bites treated at Dr Soedarso Hospital since the beginning of the year have continued to increase. In January there were 18 people, February 11 people, March 12 people, April 11 people, May 17 people, June 23 people, July 67 people, and August to the 11th has reached 48 patients.
