After Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Lisbon, riots broke out in the French capital on Sunday evening. The police in Paris arrested 22 people, as the responsible prefecture announced on Monday night on Twitter.
Rioting fans had vented their disappointment near the Parc des Princes football stadium and around the Champs Elysees. Police clashed around the stadium, who used tear gas against the fireworks-throwing crowd. Along the Champs Elysees, rioters set fire to vehicles, shattered windows and destroyed shops.
Warnings during the finals
The police had issued numerous warnings during the final. In 274 cases, there was a violation of the mask requirement, said the Paris police prefecture. People also did not adhere to the coronavirus distance rules.
No fan zones were permitted in the Paris capital due to the coronavirus pandemic. The city closed the Champs Elysees on Sunday evening so that pedestrians had more space. Wearing a protective mask was mandatory there and around the stadium.
