“In today’s world, especially considering the latest events, it is very easy to feel lonely,” says Rihards Lībietis about the new concert program. “However, such complete loneliness is not really possible – we are inevitably affected by even the smallest and most unimaginable coincidences and events. This is especially true in music, at the same time, to learn and gain valuable impressions from the interaction of different cultural spaces, which is also reflected in our performance. “
Rihards Lībietis is a musician and music author who regularly performs and collaborates with various Latvian artists and groups (Linda Leen, Raimonds Tiguls, “Pacific K”, “The Originals”, etc.). He is not only the leader, producer and publisher of his group, but also a solo artist who composes music for theatrical performances such as “The Expelled” (2014) and “Death of Bannija Manro” (2017) performed at the Daile Theater, contemporary dance performances, short films and others. events. His instrumental solo album “Lines and Miniatures” has just been released.
“Rihards Lībietis Orchestra” is a group founded in 2015, which performs instrumental and dynamic world music, combining influences from African, Middle Eastern and Latvian folk music, as well as inspired by the sound of blues and jazz. The band’s enthusiastic performance, the emotionality, rhythmicity and melodicity of the music played in the concerts create an atmosphere full of energy.
So far, four albums have been released: “Scream, Breathe, Cry” (2015), which was nominated for the Latvian Music Record of the Year Award “Golden Microphone”, “Live in Concert” (2017), “Reflections EP” (2018), which was made in collaboration with Kristīne Prauliņa, Goran Gora, Anneli Arro and others, and “Willful Blindness”, which came out in May this year.
The group has performed in various concert venues and festivals in the Baltic States, including the festivals “Rīgas Ritmi” and “Positivus”, its members have also performed as soloists and in cooperation with well-known Latvian artists, as well as participated in various competitions and projects not only as musicians .
“LV Jazz Series 2021” concerts take place once a month, and musicians offer new programs. After the concerts, their recordings are offered to the international jazz music communication network “Europe Jazz Network”, which unites more than 250 organizers and hosts of European jazz festivals, regular events and concert venues. Thus, the new jazz programs of our artists are also popularized in the international community.
“LV Jazz Series” is intended as an annual event that will continue to offer listeners to get acquainted with the latest trends in Latvian jazz and will be another public platform for young artists. The series is organized by the Contemporary Music Center, supported by the VKKF target program “Kultūrelpa”.
