“Rīgas ūdens” has been informed about incorrect meter readings for years, reports “Nekā personīga” – Society and Politics – News

As the director of the CRPC Baiba Vītoliņa explained in the program, complaints about water losses and bills have been regular for several years.

“Since we are also a metrological monitoring body, we saw that one of the risks in this chain is actually these meters, which determine how much people will have to pay together and are the input meters for apartment buildings,” she said.

CRPC found that 83% of “Rīgas ūdens” meters show erroneous data. If the water flow is small, then less water is counted than the population consumes. If the flow is high, then the mistake is to the detriment of consumers and to pay more than is actually spent.

The CRPC removed “Rīgas ūdens” meters from 28 houses for inspection, of which 23 showed incorrect data. The meters studied were both old and new. Two-thirds of inaccurate devices counted more water. The Center concluded that the problem was systemic.

“These results are that for the most part,

thus, in 23 of the 28 inspections carried out, these meters exceeded its tolerable errors,

then, in fact, it does not meet the requirements, and therefore we could not really believe that the indicators that the meters count are correct, “Vītoliņa said in the program.

“Rīgas ūdens” did not agree with the conclusions of the CRPC, tried to question the meter researchers hired by the center and looked for legal arguments. The consumer center of the company instructed to solve the problem and imposed a fine of 1,500 euros.

As Vītoliņa explained in the show, during the inspections it was found that the meters are dirty, which could be the main problem.

If there is a lot of solid particles in the water, the meter manufacturer recommends installing a filter. The CRPC study shows that the equipment counts more dirty water flowing into the pipes after repairs or extinguishing fires than it is. However, the filters “Rīgas ūdens” were not installed – it would be too expensive.

“Installing only the filter in front of the meter will not solve the problem of their maintenance. The question is who will drive, clean the filters, how much it will cost, what will be the expenses in which it will be included in the tariff,” “Nekā personīga” explained “Rīgas ūdens” Technical Department director Gatis Krauze.

The CRPC discovery for “Riga Water” is not new. Of all the meters tested by the company last year, 34% were declared unfit for use. Almost a third of meters have also been rejected in the previous two years,

“In order to get accurate measurements and ensure compliance, we were also forced to change faster, shorten the usage time of these water meters until verification, and even in recent years we have already bought and purchased new meters, and did not return previously verified to escape this percentage,” said Krauze. .

Iveta Zalpētere, acting executive director of the city of Riga, said “Nothing personal” that the company has been asked what this additional amount could be, but there is no answer.

She also added that the measurements were not always bad for the population.
