Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil deeply regrets the removal of the church label in the victim’s refugee camp the Cianjur earthquake.
“Even though we are not brothers in faith, we are still brothers in nationality and humanity,” said Ridwan Kamil on his personal Instagram account, Sunday (11/27).
He regretted the group’s attitude. The man who is familiarly called Emil stressed that humanitarian assistance should not be negatively labeled when it comes from certain groups.
“Therefore, Pancasila’s 2nd Precept, Just and Civilized Humanity must be properly upheld and practiced wisely. Humanitarian aid must not be tainted in the slightest by elements of gang hatred,” she said.
Emil said it was normal to affix an identity label for the aid provider. It may be part of the reporting or accountability to the donors who entrust their care.
“Those who help with disasters don’t come selectively, they come from all parties, all classes, groups, regardless of creed or religion,” he said.
Emil has asked the police to follow up on the revocation of church etiquette. He didn’t want such an incident to happen again.
“I have asked the police, especially the West Java Regional Police Chief, to follow up on this so that it doesn’t happen again in the future. Hatur Nuhun,” said the former mayor of Bandung.
Earlier, a number of people removed the church aid label from one of the tents of the Cianjur earthquake relief post. They took away the words “Indonesian Reformed Evangelical Church Action Team” which was written on the roof of the tent.
The action to remove the church label took place in four evacuation areas, namely Cibulakan village, Genjot village, Telaga village and Sarampad village. The video also circulated on social media.
The carabinieri asked the party who carried out the action for clarification. According to the police, the removal was not carried out by the residents living in the evacuation posts, but by the community organization of Garis (ormas).
Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman also commented on the takedown action. He said something like this shouldn’t be done because aid providers may not have specific intentions other than humanity.
“Removal is wrong, but highlighting a label is also not right. We both understand each other, we sincerely help each other without a label in helping. I hope this doesn’t happen again and we focus on disaster management until the next recovery” he said.
