18:00 – Daniel Ricciardo does not shy away from a bet and that also applies to Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko, but the Austrian did not see the idea of making a bet with a tattoo as a stake.
Last week it came out that Daniel Ricciardo has made a bet with Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul. If the Australian achieves a podium place in 2020, Abiteboul will have a tattoo. Ricciardo wanted to make the same bet with his former boss Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s top advisor. “He came up with this tattoo idea. I declined and said, ‘I’ll never get a tattoo in my life,'” Marko’s clear answer was to the opposite. GPUpdate.net. What the bet for 2020 will be, the gentlemen have not yet decided.
It is absolutely not that Marko has nothing to do with betting. He even has a history of betting with Ricciardo. In early 2019, the former Red Bull driver was beaten in the bet that Valtteri Bottas’ seat at Mercedes would be released in 2019. That did not happen, and so Ricciardo had to pick up 1000 euros from Marko. At the time, the head of Red Bull’s training program said that Ricciardo is “a very thrifty person. That really hurt him.”
Although Ricciardo left Red Bull Racing in late 2018, the relationship between the driver and the team is still good. Marko still sees the Australian as one of the best drivers on the grid, but he does not say whether it would be better for Red Bull to put him in Albon’s seat. “I can’t answer that question. There are no facts,” says Marko. “We are second in the constructors’ championship with Albon. It would have been no different with Ricciardo. What is true is that we would have two drivers of the same level. And it is also more fun with Ricciardo”, Marko laughs. “But he was looking elsewhere for a path and he chose that path. That’s fine. We are still good friends.”
