Rewarded for hard work: Talents from Dresdner SC are U20 champions

Dresden. The Dresden volleyball talents have been among the top Germans for years – both in the female and in the male field. The teams of the DSC for the girls and the VC for the boys proved this again impressively last weekend at the German U20 Championships. The DSC players around captain Julia Wesser secured the title in Cottbus. Coach Andreas Renneberg’s team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and won the final against Munich 2-0 (25-22, 27-25).

Previously, the women from the Elbe city, in which Julia Wesser and Lena Linke, who also had experience in the first division, also played, had defeated Emlichheim 2-1 in a close match in the semi-finals. “After the championships had been canceled for two years due to Corona, we are of course happy that there were finally title fights again. For some it was even the first championship. In the end, of course, it was an advantage that we had Julia Wesser and Lena Linke with us. Overall, however, it was a very good team effort and the reward for a not-so-easy season with a change in personnel,” Renneberg drew a positive conclusion and said: “We passed the master’s exam.”

The boys from VC Dresden also did extremely well in the title fights in Grafing. As group winners, Karsten Blume’s protégés also did well in the quarter-finals against Lübeck and in the semi-finals against Kriftel (2-0 each). Only in the final did they have to admit defeat to host Grafing with 0:2 (21:25, 26:28) and thus won the silver medal.
