“Regional dust storms are toying with water vapor in the Martian atmosphere, warming it, and slowing its transition,” said Geronimo Villanueva, planetary scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
According to him, dust storms also hold water vapor higher in the atmosphere, where ultraviolet radiation more easily releases hydrogen atoms from water molecules.

Before the dust storm began, scientists could only identify water vapor near the Martian surface.
But as storms intensify, the researchers see temperatures heat up and water vapor rises.
