Revealed, This Is the Reason Saudi Shoot Iranian Ship in the Gulf Sea

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The incident occurred between Saudi Arabian coast guard forces and Iranian fishing vessels in Gulf waters yesterday. No half-hearted, the Saudi shot at three Iranian ships at once to retreat.

As reported by the Saudi Press, a spokesman for the Saudi Kingdom said Iranian fishing vessels continued to approach Saudi territory and refused to stop. In fact, they have been repeatedly warned. Eventually three Iranian ships were forced to retreat with warning shots.

“The ships refused to respond to the warning after warning shots were fired … forcing them to retreat,” AFP wrote quoting the report, as reported Sunday (6/28/2020). However, the report did not identify the type of vessel used.

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted Iranian media as saying Saudi watchmen were firing on Iranian fishermen who were lost in Saudi waters. However, no one was injured in the incident.

Still according to the Iranian media, the fishermen had left on June 21 for a 10-day trip. However, it is not known whether the two reports refer to the same incident.

Saudi Arabia and Iran have cut off diplomatic relations since 2016. However, disputes between the two countries have occurred since 1979.

Tensions escalated last year after a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf and Saudi oil installations, an incident that shook the global energy market last year.

Both the United States and Saudi Arabia accuse Iran of being behind the attack. Iran has immediately denied the accusation.
