Reuters: Boeing announces mega order of 737 MAX for Delta

An agreement is also said to be imminent with the German Lufthansa for the sale of ten cargo planes.

This is the first major commercial aviation meeting since the start of the corona crisis. The show in southern England to be held next week is of particular interest to Boeing, which is in competition with Airbus. In view of the number of orders, the Americans are far behind their European competitor.

Airbus has clearly been following the market for the past ten years. Boeing, meanwhile, is grappling with a series of problems. For example, the American group is struggling with quality problems with the 787 Dreamliner. In addition, Boeing is barely able to get sales of the 737 MAX up to speed after two fatal accidents in a short time with the aircraft a few years ago.

In the meantime, it seems that deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner can be resumed soon, Reuters understood on Sunday from Boeing driver Stan Deal. The manufacturer has not yet released anything formally about the upcoming deals. However, the company released a new forecast for aircraft sales in the coming decades.

The Americans expect that there will be demand for about 41,000 new aircraft by 2041. This means that Boeing is slightly more conservative than a year ago, when a comparable forecast still expected nearly 44,000 deliveries in the period up to 2040. In its forecast, the group takes into account a bleaker outlook for global economic growth. Another factor is the uncertainty about supplies to Russia, on which the West has imposed many sanctions because of the war in Ukraine.

Like other industries, aviation has recently suffered from disruption of supply chains. For example, due to corona lockdowns in Asia, certain aircraft parts are barely available. Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, also with a presence in Farnborough, said on Sunday that it will be quite a challenge to meet its commercial delivery targets before the end of the year. “We are affected by these supply chain restrictions,” chief executive Francisco Gomes Neto said in an interview with Bloomberg news agency.
