Reul sends calendars to the police

Political education, month after month: North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) has almost 5,000 large-format calendars with Articles of the Basic Law sent to the police stations in the state. In the foreword of the calendar, Reul refers to the racist chats that have become known in the ranks of the police.

“Like many of you, I was also disturbed by the right-wing extremist incidents in your own ranks,” writes Reul: “I am convinced that we shouldn’t just go back to business.” For him there is no question that the “vast majority” of the police officers see the Basic Law – alongside the state constitution – as the basis of their actions.

The calendar should remind: “Whatever awaits us in the next twelve months, however much the storms blow, our country will withstand it.” Precisely because NRW has the “solid and great foundation” of the Basic Law, the minister continued.

Articles such as “Human dignity is inviolable” (February) or “All people are equal before the law” (June) are artistically presented in the calendar. As a spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry said, the calendars are distributed by the individual police departments in their respective guards and departments.
