ReTV: Residents outraged by mushroom prices. Traders believe – who needs it, buys it – Society and politics – News

There are fewer mushrooms in the forest this year because they are relatively dry, mushroom readers pointed out. In the Cesis market, the price per kilogram is lower than in Riga, and can reach 20 euros, and it is adequate, traders told ReTV News.

“Whoever needs it buys it,” said Veronica, a mushroom merchant from Rauna. “There are cafes, there are people who don’t find it expensive. We have to go to that forest and find a place for it, and other times we have to walk all day – it’s also a waste of time; it’s not that we have mushrooms waiting somewhere.”

In summer, a variety of unusual mushroom dishes also appear on the menus of restaurants and cafés. Andris Eisaks, the chef of the restaurant “Vecpuisis”, said that prices do not matter.

“Of course, the best is from the market, or someone who collects and brings them – and we buy, but if I do not, I even sent from Germany for a million kilograms,” ironed the chef.

“I had it this year too – in theory, the chanterelles should have started, but there was no rain already, and I had them on the menu and I had to send them from Germany,” said Eisaks.

The chef also pointed out that if prices may seem inadequately high at the beginning of the season, mushrooms become cheaper over time.
