Hamburg is tightening measures in old people’s homes

Against the background of an increase in Covid-19 diseases in old people’s homes in Hamburg, the health authority has tightened the precautionary measures. In addition to the already existing ban on visits, the prevention and hygiene regulations were expanded, health senator Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks (SPD) said on Friday. Nursing facilities are now obliged to make the necessary preparations for a corona outbreak.

In addition, the prerequisites for the referral and remittance of nursing staff between the care facility and the hospital were regulated. Furthermore, residents and employees of retirement homes must undergo extensive testing if an infection occurs.

Corona: Retirement homes have to accommodate residents

In the future, hospitals should be informed in advance if there is an accumulation of corona cases or pneumonia in the care facility from which a patient comes. There is an accumulation if there are two or more cases. However, treatment should not be refused.

At the same time, residential and care facilities remain obliged to make new admissions. Before an admission, however, tests should as far as possible ensure that no one infected with Covid-19 is admitted.
