resurgence of measles cases in the Eurometropolis

Since late November, fifteen cases of measles have been declared in the Strasbourg Eurometropolis. An upsurge that pushes the Regional Health Agency (ARS), Monday, December 30, to remind the precautions and the importance of vaccination. About 100 people likely to have been contaminated had to be contacted, to suggest treatment or monitoring.

Compulsory vaccination in children born after January 1, 2018

“Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases”, stresses the ARS, specifying that a “sick person can infect up to 20 people”. Transmission is mainly by air. The symptoms are: fever greater than 38 °, associated with a cough, a rhinitis, a conjunctivitis and an tired important. They are followed after a few days of skin rash. In this case it is advisable to call the attending physician.

If an adult or child has signs of measles, they are asked not to go to the emergency room or the doctor’s waiting room to avoid infecting others.

The Regional Health Agency also recalls the importance of vaccination : “By being vaccinated, we protect ourselves but we also protect others. The more we are vaccinated, the more we will block measles for those who cannot be vaccinated (newborns, pregnant women, immunocompromised people)”. MMR (Rubella Mumps Rubella) vaccination is compulsory in children born after January 1, 2018.
