Resilience Rive-Sud: after COVID, mental health

Faced with the often draconian changes in our habits generated by COVID-19, the psychological effects within the population were felt. The project Resilience South Shore was set up to try to relieve souls.

This pilot project of sensitization and community mobilization was developed with a view to preventing distress and strengthening mutual aid among citizens.

One of the objectives of Résilience Rive-Sud is to inform people of the possible effects of the pandemic on their mental health and to promote their resilience towards themselves in such a context.

This is how the project, set up by the Table de concertation en santé mine de la Rive-Sud and the resilience subcommittee of the agglomeration of Longueuil, set up a website where their services are offered to all. “There are several tools on the website, a moral-O-scope to answer the question How are things going today ?, a map of resources accessible to those who need them, a quiz, or even participatory workshops entitled The ABCs to overcome the crisis, ”explains Marie-Ève Langlois, project manager, to the newspaper.

Workshops are offered free of charge. “These are workshops by Zoom or in person to encourage people to share their experience. To participate, simply register on the website. We limit the workshops to eight people in order to encourage interaction for all. The duration of a meeting is 2:30. “

The project, which saw the light of day on March 20, seems to have a good turnout around its events which are regularly sold out. “The demand is there,” explains Ms. Langlois. What I see is that those present are happy to share their feelings, which range from loneliness to the fear they are currently experiencing. “

Through the different themes discussed there, people discover tools that help them put in place resilience strategies in order to better live their daily lives.

Community mobilization
Résilience Rive-Sud also wishes to enable the mobilization of key players in the community. They will be made aware of mental health issues and will be trained as Sentinels by Carrefour le Moutier.
What is a Sentinel? He is a citizen who, in the face of the distress of others, takes to heart the desire to play an active role in the community. Its role is to support people in distress while waiting for help services to take over, such as first aid.

#Plusfortsquonpense
#Morefortsquonpense is the campaign hashtag and the title of a series of humorous capsules illustrating life situations in which it is possible to use our capacity for resilience.
We can see the actors, Caro and Sylvain, who try to manage somehow less than perfect situations that take surprising turns.

Finally, the community organizations that make up the steering committee of this project are: l’Arc-en-ciel des Seigneuries – support group in mental health, the Association of parents and friends of the person suffering from mental illness Rive-Sud (APAMM-RS) and Carrefour le Moutier.
