Residents in Bengkalis Sell Meat Found in Garbage, Believed to be from Customs Destruction

Jakarta

Many residents unload meat from piles of garbage at the Bantan landfill, Bengkalis, Riau. There are even residents who sell the meat again.

Reported detikSumatra, Kapolres Bengkalis AKBP Setyo Bimo said the meat was the result of destruction by Customs. The police immediately launched an operation after this incident occurred.

“After it was destroyed it was piled up at the landfill, then towards noon the residents came to the landfill and it was taken, dug up again,” said Bimo, Tuesday (30/5/2023).

“Some are also being traded. We were with the head of the Bengkalis Industry and Trade Service directly operating traditional markets. There are the biggest Terubuk Markets and the Selat Baru Market near the TPA, right,” he continued.

Furthermore, Bimo has also asked the Bengkalis Police to visit residents’ homes. He asked residents not to sell and consume the meat that had been stockpiled.

“We have directed the Kapolsek so that this meat can be taken to be destroyed in other ways. We are doing this as a precautionary measure, we don’t know where the meat comes from, there are lots of bacteria because it has been buried in wet garbage,” he said.
