Due to the intense horror atmosphere, the many narrow spaces and the rather leisurely pace of play, Resident Evil 7 still seemed made for Sony’s VR glasses. The title is still one of the most successful VR games ever.

To the successor Resident Evil 8 The rumor mill is just exploding: The first insider leaks appear on Twitter as well as on video game and fan sites, which describe the plot, characters and setting of Resident Evil 8.

Resident Evil 8 VR a sure-fire success?

The Resident Evil 8 re-selects first person perspective seems to make VR mode a sure-fire success for Capcom. After all, there are over five million PSVR owners. The predecessor played around 17 percent of Resident Evil 7 buyers in VR. That’s more than 850,000 potential VR users for Resident Evil 8 (as of April 2020) – only for Sony’s PS4.

And if Resident Evil 8 also appears on PS5: Sony’s new console supports the old Playstation VR – even if PS5 beginners instead old PS4 controllers and would have to buy a camera.

Nevertheless: so completely VR mode is not a matter of course. PSVR is technically out of date and the PS5 is already on the market as planned – a PSVR2, however, is not in sight.

The VR implementation is already in the engine and there is a lot of experience from the predecessor. But VR mode does not develop by itself. Capcom would have to invest additional resources. Whether it’s worth it will also depend on Sony’s long-term VR plans and whether the Japanese will again pay for VR exclusivity.

Or Capcom decides this time that VR mode also for the PC bring – then directly in a double pack with Resident Evil 7.
