Rescue operation in Sunnmøre: – Rescued after several hours

The rescue operation was launched early Saturday night, last night the rescue crews managed to get in to the woman and get her down.

– It is very, very, very difficult conditions, says operations manager Sindre Molnes in Møre og Romsdal police district to Dagbladet just before 23.30.

Zero vision

Both the police, the Main Rescue Center Southern Norway and the Red Cross have been involved in the operation since 7.30 pm. However, a lot of snow, wind and dense fog with zero visibility create major problems.

– It is such a difficult situation that the Red Cross has tried to get up with a scooter, but got stuck. Now we have to send in an alpine rescue group on skis.

According to the plan, the rescue group will be flown up the mountain by helicopter, but due to the weather conditions, they could not be flown all the way to where the woman is.

– We fly as far as we can, but we can not fly in completely. The rest of the way all the way in must be on skis, says Molnes.

I god behold

Only at 00.47 do the police report that rescue crews have reached the woman, and that they are on their way down from the mountain again.

– Woman is cold, but in good condition, the police write on Twitter.

According to the operations manager, the mountain-accustomed woman was surprised by the abruptly bad weather and reported that she needed help.

At 1.27, the police report that the situation is over.

– The woman is now down from the mountain, examined by health personnel and cleared to be able to go home after a check-up. We end on the spot, the police write on Twitter.
