Remco Evenepoel tries everything for the whole in the Tour of Poland and leaves alone at 50 kilometers from the finish!

While many eyes are on Milan-Sanremo (
to follow live here), the Tour of Poland is decided this Saturday, with the queen stage on the program, before a last stage reserved for sprinters this Sunday.

And in the absence of a real pass, Remco Evenepoel must attempt a real tour de force if he wants to regain time in the yellow jersey Richard Carapaz, who offered himself 10 seconds of bonuses by winning this Friday’s stage. The Belgian from the Deceuninck-Quick Step then decided to attack from a distance, attacking 50 kilometers from the finish!

The evolution of the situation in this 4th stage:

– 15km from the finish: more than a minute early for Evenpoel who should double down!

– 21km from the finish: stable situation: still 53seconds ahead for Evenepoel on the trio Yates, Fuglsang and Majka.

– 25km from the finish: Fuglsang, Yates and Majka go out in three to try to enter Evenepoel. Carapaz does not seem to be in the game since his fall …

– 26km from the finish: 56 seconds ahead, always, on a peloton reduced to 25 men where we look at each other, we observe each other, we attack. But where we don’t really collaborate.

– 31km from the finish: the pursuit is disorganized and the gap stabilizes around 50 seconds. About twenty men multiply the attacks in the group of pursuers.

– 38km from the finish: still alone in the lead, Evenepoel now has a 42 seconds lead. Only Dunbar leads the pack, for the yellow Carapaz jersey. This peloton has only about twenty men and for the moment, no one seems to want to help the Irishman to keep the gap.

– 50km from the finish: while the morning breakaway is resumed, Remco Evenepoel decides to try his luck in one of the day’s climbs. He quickly takes a few meters ahead.

– Start of the race: a big fall put several riders on the ground, including Richard Carapaz (the leader of the general classification). The main riders involved were however able to enter the peloton.
