The stewards of the United States Grand Prix took several hours to consider two Haas F1 protests over the race results. As a result, the protest about Sergio Perez’s car, on which the front wing end plate was torn off, was rejected, and the protest about Fernando Alonso’s car: he was driving with a damaged mirror, which later is when he arrived off, he was satisfied by the stewards.
Representatives of the FIA and stewards invited as experts agreed that Alonso’s dangling right mirror after the accident was a danger to the other participants, both due to the lack of two mirrors required by the regulations, and due to the potential injury of another pilot.
As a result, 30 seconds have been added to Alonso’s result, which is equivalent to 10 seconds of Stop & Go penalty at race distance, but the Spaniard will not receive any penalty points, as the team is not responsible for the incident.
In the final protocol, Alonso dropped to 15th place.
The team has been informed of the possibility of appealing.
