Regional Government “does not yield to pressure from companies”

In a statement addressed to the editorial staff this Saturday, the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure (SREI) denies that the Regional Government has given in to pressure from Brinertes, following the news today advanced by DIÁRIO, on the subject of ‘plunder’ to Ribeira do Faial.

“The Regional Government does not give in to any pressure from companies, it only intends that they scrupulously comply with the legislation in force”, attests the executive’s note, justifying the decision to authorize the crusher to seek stone from the river as “one of the structural measures of mitigation of alluvial risk, defined in the alluvial risk assessment study ”. That is, “the conservation, cleaning, clearing and de-silting of hydrographic basins”.

“Only in this context, for reasons of security of people and goods, will SREI be able to authorize / license the extraction of alluvial material, fulfilling, of course, all the requirements of the legislation in force”, highlights the tutelage.

In this specific case, SREI, through the River Hydraulics Service, claims that “it has been limited to complying with and enforcing the law, as is incumbent on it” and that “the company in question, Brinertes, has requested authorization to proceed with the cleaning land that she owns ”.

The secretariat also points out that the request, delivered on the 20th, is still being analyzed and only “after this evaluation is completed, it will be seen whether the request made is accepted or not”.

“The fact that the DN’s news itself refers to the various inspection steps triggered by the River Hydraulics Service is an unequivocal demonstration that SREI only gives in to the rule of law”, reinforces the Secretariat.
