Regio: Freiburg-Denzlingen-Waldkirch / Emmendingen (RS6) rapid cycle route: Planners present the results of online participation – around 1000 comments from the population checked and answered

The planning of the rapid cycle route from Freiburg to Emmendingen and Waldkirch is moving: Around 200 interested citizens took part in a digital information event on the project on Monday evening. The planners of the regional council and the city of Freiburg presented the results of the public participation so far. Around 1,000 tips and comments on the planning of the 26-kilometer route have been received and evaluated over the past few months.

“The public participation for the RS 6 is already a complete success. Much of the advice given by people in the region was so substantial and helpful that it is now being incorporated into the planning, ”said District President Bärbel Schäfer. After the opening event for “RS 6” last December, interested citizens had the opportunity to enter their information on an interactive map on the Internet for six weeks. The planners of the RP and the city have checked and answered all the hints. As they reported on Monday, in addition to general comments on topics such as road safety or driving comfort, there were some sections of the route where the information was piling up – and in some places led to changes in the planning. For example, the many references to the route section north of Gundelfingen meant that the planners checked a route variant in this agricultural area and changed the route. In addition, the Walter-Boch-Straße in Waldkirch was removed from a variant due to information from citizens. “A lot of information about existing conflict points in traffic along the route form an important basis for planning for us,” says Martin Laufer, project manager of the RP: corresponds to the actual needs of the commuters. ”As part of the public participation, on-site inspections are planned in the summer, during which the planners visit the route together with interested citizens.

By the end of 2021, the so-called preferred variant for the route of the parts of the RP should be determined. Martin Laufer presented the different route variants on the various sections of the RP and explained the evaluation criteria for the upcoming selection of the preferred variant. The main criteria are the quality of use for cycling, interventions in other traffic uses, environmental compatibility and feasibility. “The preferred variant should take all issues into account as far as possible and function well as a cycle expressway,” explained Laufer. The evaluation criteria were worked out by the support group of the “RS 6”, in which the municipalities, associations, citizen groups, companies and politics are represented.

All information on the “RS 6” cycle route and the evaluation of online participation is available on the project website: www.breisgau-y.de

Background information on RS 6:

The 26 km long, independent, continuous and wide route of the cycle expressway should enable trouble-free, safe progress. The traffic potential on the main axis in the Freiburg area is up to 12,000 cyclists a day – so the RS 6 occupies a top position in the state.

The RP plans and builds the total of around 21 kilometers of the rapid cycle route from the city limits of Freiburg to Waldkirch and Emmendingen on behalf of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport. The planning costs around 1.4 million euros for this. The Federal Ministry of Transport is contributing around 1.1 million euros of this. The city of Freiburg is responsible for planning and building the five-kilometer route in the urban area. The aim is for the RS 6 to be built by 2028. Unproblematic sections of the route should, however, be brought forward and implemented more quickly.
