Refurbishment is progressing at full speed

Würzburg. Work is currently underway on the interior design, and work has progressed furthest in the small house, where the tiered, wood-paneled structure of the audience seats allows a view of the future stage: the renovation and expansion work on the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg, which will be a state theater in the future will advance.

New head building

Overall, the renovation and expansion work includes the construction of a new front building with a small house, new rehearsal stages and a new catering facility, the creation of a new orchestra rehearsal room, the renovation of the main wing with the large house and the expansion of the workshops.

In addition, all work areas that have been outsourced to date are to be integrated into the theater building. The return to the completely renovated and expanded Mainfranken Theater – then as a state theater – is planned for the 2022/23 season.

The district of Würzburg also supports the renovation of the Mainfranken Theater. The second part of the funding total of one million euros has now been handed over by District Administrator Thomas Eberth, who, together with Lord Mayor Christian Schuchardt, obtained information from the Managing Director of the MainfrankenTheater, Dirk Terwey, and Artistic Director Markus Trabusch about the current progress of the construction work.

Existing building from 1966

Incidentally, the existing building of the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg dates back to 1966. The renovation and expansion of the aging house has become imperative in order to meet the requirements for economical, safe and contemporary theater operations for the next few decades. The investments are made jointly by the Free State of Bavaria, the city and district of Würzburg, the district of Lower Franconia and, among other things, from foundation funds and donations.

“Earlier generations have shown us that politicians have to dare to do something – otherwise such imposing buildings as the Residenz would never have been built,” said Eberth during the tour. The same is true today with the MainfrankenTheater, “the cultural flagship of the entire region”. This will now be upgraded for years to come, not just architecturally. Something very special is being created here for everyone to see, and this also makes future visitors curious. “The renovated MainfrankenTheater will also be a great venue and a wonderful workplace for the artists,” said District Administrator Eberth with conviction.

Lord Mayor Christian Schuchardt emphasized that the cost sharing by the pay-as-you-go district is anything but a matter of course. “I am even convinced that the district of Würzburg is the first to support such a project financially in a regional center”.

“Good cooperation”

This article once again shows the good cooperation between town and country and the common will to further develop the region. “The people build for the people here, the Mainfranken Theater is open to everyone. Of course, we would like the citizens of the city and district to identify with the building, ”Schuchardt hopes.

The Lord Mayor was convinced that after attending the first performance in the future State Theater in Würzburg, the last critics would be able to fall silent and see with their own eyes that “we had to step on the gas to create something great for the region” during construction.
