Sometimes babies are at risk where you would never suspect. That had to experience the young mother Hollie Cruickshanks (21) from the Scottish Dundee. Just because she kissed her six-month-old daughter Oarlah tenderly, the little girl got a red rash all over her body. “I was absolutely horrified when I discovered this,” quotes the online version of the British “Sun”, the young woman.
Acute danger to the eyes
Not only the head, face and body of the little girl were affected, but also the left eye. Hollie described her terrible fear: “I knew that it could make her blind.” She responded immediately and drove to the hospital with Oarlah and her partner Bradley Airlie (21). After 24 anxious hours the all-clear signal came: the doctors had got the rash under control.
Hollie is happy that her little daughter has survived everything well. Meanwhile, Oarlah, who was born in November 2018, is 15 months old and completely healthy again. Still, the fright is still in her mother’s bones. She knew the danger from a Facebook post that she had seen during her pregnancy. “I tried to protect her and she still got this terrible virus,” she said on thesun.co.uk, stressing, “I still don’t let anyone kiss her.”
Infants very susceptible to the herpes virus
The herpes virus is located in the nerve nodes and is also responsible for diseases such as shingles, three-day fever and chickenpox. In adults, it usually manifests itself in painful lip sores, which are more of a cosmetic than a health problem. For newborns under six months of age, however, infection can be fatal in extreme cases. Therefore, extreme caution is important.
