Record Time, Blood Moon Phenomenon Will Return May 26th

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Blood Moon 2021 will appear in the sky on May 26. The last time it happened on January 20-21, 2019, the phenomenon of the full moon, which appears reddish in the shadows of the Earth, will be witnessed from many regions this year.

According to the records of the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA, Blood Moon 2021 will last a total of 3 hours 7 minutes – including partial and total eclipses. The total lunar eclipse portion alone will last for about 15 minutes.

This celestial phenomenon will begin at 08.47 UTC or 15.47 WIB. However, the full eclipse will appear at 11.11 UTC (18.11 WIB) and will be a maximum at 11:18 UTC (18.18 WIB) and will continue to be in a total state up to 11.25 UTC (18.25 WIB). The eclipse will end at 13.49 UTC (20.49 WIB).

The Blood Moon phenomenon only occurs when the moon is full and experiences a total lunar eclipse. The earth moves between the moon and the sun so that they are in a straight line axis position. That’s when the moon will be ‘swallowed up’ by the shadow of the Earth.

At the same time, a little light from the direction of the sun rising and setting sun on Earth falls on the surface of the Moon. It is this long wave of light coming from Earth that makes the moon appear red. It will get redder if the air pollution, cloud cover or the thickness of the particles in the Earth’s atmosphere that is penetrated by the light gets bigger.

Blood Moon can be seen with the naked eye, without the need for special equipment for observation. Of course, the experience would be better if you could watch it through a telescope.

Blood Moon 2021 will be visible in the South / East Asia region, Australia, most of North America, South America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Antarctica. Some of the cities where a total lunar eclipse is expected to be seen include Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo. It will also be seen partly in cities such as Bangkok, Chicago, Dhaka, Montreal, New York, Toronto and Yangon.

Total lunar eclipse and Blood Moon won’t happen again until May 2022.
