Two amazing lightning bolts are described in “Geophysical Research Letters”. They were registered in South America. Lightning with a record length of over 700 km appeared over southern Brazil on October 31, 2018, and lightning with a custom length in Argentina March 4, 2019.

The new lightning length record is really amazing, especially since the previous “record holder” measured only 321 km and lit the sky above Oklahoma on June 20, 2007. In turn, the previous record lightning, which was considered the longest lasting lightning, which appeared on August 30, 2012 over the French region of Provence – Alps-Cote d’Azur. Lasted 7.74 s.
