Recognizing the Warning Sign of Measles: Koplik’s Spots

Al-Marsad Newspaper: According to a medical study, measles refers to a highly contagious and dangerous viral disease caused by a virus from the paramyxovirus family, and the condition is usually transmitted through direct contact and air.

One of the warning signs of measles in your mouth is “Koplik’s spots,” according to the British newspaper “Express”.

Koplik’s spots describe small bluish-white spots that appear on the inside of the cheeks, often referred to as “grains of salt on a red background”.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Koplik’s spots usually appear two to three days after measles symptoms begin.

This red flag is a common sign, affecting about 60 to 70 percent of patients with measles, according to the National Library of Medicine reports.

The CDC notes that spots can be preceded by the following signs:

1- High temperature.

2- Cough.

3- Runny nose.

4- Red watery eyes (conjunctivitis).
