In the last two days, four cases of Covid-19 infection have been detected in Latvia. According to Arāja, one case is related to a trip to Sweden, but three cases are related to infection from a person who has been to Russia.

Arāja emphasized that the sources of infection had already been identified by the SPKC and that three sick persons had already been identified as contact persons who complied with the house quarantine.

A spokeswoman for the SPKC said earlier that in the last two weeks, more and more new cases of Covid-19 infection have been related to travel from three primary countries – Russia, Ukraine and Sweden.

It has already been reported that due to the low prevalence of Covid-19 in the society, the proportion of new Covid-19 cases among those infected from abroad is increasing, LKA told SPKC.

The SPCC recalls that 14-day self-isolation must be observed for immigrants from countries with a 14-day cumulative morbidity rate of more than 15 cases per 100,000 population, as well as countries outside the European Union.

SPKC specialists urge everyone to take precautionary measures, as the situation in the world continues to deteriorate, therefore there is a high risk of bringing the infection to Latvia, infecting family members, acquaintances and other people with whom the patient comes into contact. Elderly and chronically ill patients are at particularly high risk of severe Covid-19 infection. Only by taking all restrictive and precautionary measures can risk groups be protected.

SPKC specialists remind that 14 days of self-isolation at the place of residence must be observed for persons who have returned from countries where the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate exceeds 15 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. At present, Sweden, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Romania, Bulgaria and Luxembourg are among the countries in need of self-isolation.

Those who have already ordered tickets for a trip to one of the mentioned countries, returning to Latvia, will have to observe self-isolation. This requirement also applies to transit travelers, ie if the traveler will pass through these countries or have stayed at their airports for transfer purposes.
