Azores without new cases for five consecutive days

The Azorean Health Authority reported today that there are no new cases of contamination by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the archipelago since Wednesday, that is, for five consecutive days.

In a statement released today, the Regional Health Authority said that, in the last 24 hours, there were no new positive cases of covid-19 in the islands, despite the 664 analyzes carried out in the two reference laboratories in the Region.

“The Region currently has three active positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus, two on the island of São Miguel (detected on June 23) and one on Terceira island (discovered on June 20), and until the date, 151 cases were detected ”in the Azores, since the beginning of the pandemic, says the same communiqué.

Although no new cases have been recorded in the archipelago, the authorities advise the population to maintain and, if possible, reinforce measures to prevent and contain the pandemic.

“The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, do not seek a hospital or health unit, but call the Azores Health Line – 808 24 60 24 ”, underlines the statement.

In Portugal, 1,561 people out of 41,189 confirmed as infected have died, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.

The disease is spread by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
